Visually impaired man dies after falling onto LRT tracks, getting hit by train

KUALA LUMPUR: A visually impaired man died after falling onto the railway tracks and then being struck by a train at the Titiwangsa Light Rail Transit (LRT) station on Saturday (Feb 22) morning, Malay language portal Astro Awani reports.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department, in a statement, verified the incident and said the victim died at the scene, Astro Awani reported.

Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Fadil Hesam Mohd said the victim was found under the LRT rail tracks.

"The Operations Centre received an emergency call at 8.38am through the MERS-999 system informing about the discovery of a body under the railway tracks," he said.

He said following the report, officers from the Sentul and Titiwangsa Fire and Rescue Stations were dispatched to the location.

"Further investigations showed that the victim lost his balance and fell onto the LRT tracks before being hit by a train.

"The process of removing the body from the scene of the incident is being carried out carefully by the authorities to ensure safety and a smooth investigation process," he said.

Meanwhile, Rapid Rail said that train services at PWTC, Titiwangsa, Sentul and Sentul Timur LRT Stations were temporarily suspended following the incident.

"As a safety measure during the operations, they have deactivated the power supply at the station to make way for the police, fire department and ambulance which are currently at the location to carry out extraction work.

"Alternative rail services, including free feeder bus services were activated to support operations during the temporary closure," Rapid Rail said.
