Four detained over house break-in, motorcyle theft in JB

JOHOR BARU: Four men have been arrested for housebreaking and vehicle theft.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the arrests were based on a police report lodged by a 19-year-old victim who claimed that someone broke into his house and stole his motorcycle parked in front last Friday (Feb 21).

“The arrests were made in three separate locations in Kampung Melayu Majidee, Bandar Seri Alam and Bandar Permas Jaya.

“The suspects, aged 33 to 37, were arrested along with the seizure of three motorcycles without registration plates and a motorcycle with a fake registration plate,” he said in a press conference here on Monday (Feb 24).

He said the group was believed to be involved in at least four motorcycle theft cases in Johor Baru and Masai in the past five months.

“The suspects, including their group leader called Farid, usually take apart the stolen motorcycles and sell them for parts. They have a regular set of customers.

“Three of the four suspects also possess a total of 26 prior criminal records related to vehicle theft and drugs,” said ACP Raub, adding that all four tested positive for methamphetamine.

The suspects have been placed under remand until next Wednesday for investigation under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft, he added.
