JOHOR BARU: The Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency has urged travellers, especially daily commuters heading to Singapore for work, to plan their journeys earlier to help reduce congestion at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex.
In a statement on Tuesday (July 21), the agency said its monitoring found that the majority of commuters begin their journey between 6.30am and 7.30am, resulting in a surge of travellers arriving at the checkpoints simultaneously and contributing to congestion during the morning peak period.
“Members of the public are advised to plan their journeys earlier to avoid delays and congestion during peak hours,” it said.
The agency also called on travellers to cooperate with officers on duty by following instructions, including moving to the rear of queues to fill vacant inspection lanes.
“Such cooperation is important to ensure travellers are distributed more evenly across all inspection lanes, allowing the clearance process to be carried out more quickly,” it said.
The agency also encouraged the public to use the MyNIISe application for a faster, more convenient and efficient immigration clearance process.
It said the government would continue strengthening the use of digital platforms as part of its digitalisation efforts, with the number of manual inspection counters to be reduced in stages.
“For MyNIISe users, please ensure your QR code has been updated and is ready before arriving at the inspection lane. Updating the QR code at the inspection counter will lengthen the clearance process and may contribute to congestion at the lane,” it said.
The agency also reminded travellers to use the correct inspection lanes according to their mode of clearance, whether through manual counters, MyBorderPass or MyNIISe.
It said selecting the appropriate lane would not only speed up the immigration clearance process but also minimise disruptions to other users.
The agency thanked commuters for their cooperation and patience, saying compliance with officers’ instructions and the use of available digital facilities would help ensure inspections at the BSI CIQ complex are carried out more smoothly, safely and efficiently.
“Plan your journey, follow the instructions of officers and use MyNIISe for a smoother travel experience,” it added.
