Two students feared drowned in Perak River

PARIT: Two school students are feared drowned after falling into the Perak River near Kampung Tepus on Monday (Feb 17).

The Parit Fire and Rescue Station received the information at 4.21pm, involving two 16-year-old male students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sultan Muhammad Shah.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the victims were trying to retrieve a ball that fell into the river, Sinar Harian reported.

"A search and rescue operation was launched with seven personnel using an aluminium boat. Villagers using fishing boats also assisted in the search operation at the scene," he said in a statement on Monday.

He added that the Water Rescue Team from the Kuala Kangsar and Pulau Pangkor Fire and Rescue Stations has been mobilised to assist in the operation.

"The weather is currently overcast with strong river currents. As of 6.30pm, both victims have not been found," he said.
