SEREMBAN: A 20-year-old former childcare assistant pleaded guilty at separate Sessions courts here to four charges of using a hot metal spoon to cause burns and physical injuries on the arms of young girls.
The accused who had claimed trial when she was first charged last September, did not contest the charges this time after these were read to her separately before judges Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi and Surita Budin.
She was charged with committing two offences each before both judges.
The offences were committed against the victims aged between five and six at a centre here in August last year.
She was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a maximum 20-year jail term, a fine of up to RM50,000, or both, upon conviction.
Earlier deputy public prosecutors Intan Noorashikin Nasarudin and Nurul Balkis Zunaidi told both judges that a representation filed by the defence to review the charges had been rejected by the Attorney General's Chambers.
Both courts then fixed March 19 for sentencing pending the tabling of a social report on the accused.
The accused was then sent to the Sg Udang prison as she could not raise the RM80,000 bail amount.
She was represented by Boestamam Ahmad.
The case is related to the large-scale Ops Global carried out by the authorities last September where hundreds of children were rescued from care homes linked to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB).
The initial raids were conducted at 18 care homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan.
A total of 402 children, comprising 201 boys and 201 girls aged between one and 17, were rescued.
They were believed to be victims of abuse or abandoned.
