KUALA LUMPUR: The man accused of abusing his stepdaughter in a viral video was arrested and charged at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Dec 26 last year.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said police on Thursday (Feb 19) detected the video on Threads uploaded by capricedaddycap.
Sinar Harian reported him saying that the two-minute video showed a man behaving aggressively, beating and kicking a four-year-old girl, as well as ordering her to run repeatedly.
"Checks found that police had received a report regarding the incident earlier, on Dec 19, 2025 at 1.48pm, from a 27-year-old woman who is also the victim's mother.
"The complainant reported seeing several video recordings showing the suspect committing mental and physical abuse against his child," he said in a statement on Thursday.
Comm Fadil said the incident is believed to have occurred in a residential area around Setapak.
Following the report, he said an investigation paper was opened under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children's Act 2001.
"On Dec 20, 2025, police arrested a 32-year-old man, who is the complainant's husband and the victim's stepfather, to assist in the investigation.
"The suspect was later charged in the Kuala Lumpur Court on December 26, 2025," he said.
Fadil said the public is advised to immediately file a police report if they have information regarding abuse cases, especially involving children.

Earlier, a video went viral on social media showing a man repeatedly hitting, kicking and ordering a child to run in an incident believed to have occurred in Setapak.
