Trust, cooperation key to GPS success in Sarawak governance, says Abang Johari

SIBU: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is able to govern Sarawak effectively due to strong inter-party trust and cooperation, says Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg (pic)

"In GPS, we have trust — not only within the party but also between component parties," said the Sarawak Premier at the Sibu SUPP Chinese New Year open house on Monday (Feb 17)

Abang Johari said a party would grow weaker without trust and emphasised the necessity of a programme to nurture new leaders capable of adapting to the country's governance methods.

"What we want is a strong PBB, a strong SUPP, and also a strong component party within GPS. The strength of any party is based on the solidarity of its members and the unity of its leaders. The party is more important than an individual," he said.

Abang Johari also said that propaganda generated by artificial intelligence (AI) could influence public perception and political outcomes.

"Technology can be a challenge to any party because of propaganda. Today is Chinese New Year, and even President Trump greeted Sarawak.

"But it was AI-generated. Tomorrow, you may see my face in PBB’s clothes saying, ‘Don’t vote for PBB.’ This is one of our challenges in the future," he explained.

Abang Johari said as Sarawak moves forward, leaders and members of SUPP, PBB, PDP and PRS must work together under a single, united front.

"Our governance must be strong, our participation must be meaningful, and we must bring positive change to the people and the state," he concluded.
