MP urges religious authorities to address cross-dressing at event

KUALA LUMPUR: MP Mohd Misbahul Munir Masduki (PN-Parit Buntar) has criticised men attending an entertainment event dressed as women, urging the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) and authorities to summon the organisers and take appropriate action.

"We are not against the event itself, but when men dress as women, it is inappropriate. Jakim and the religious authorities must call in the organisers and take firm action," he said in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Feb 17).

According to Sinar Harian, images and videos of the incident circulated on social media, particularly from the event’s red carpet segment, where male guests, believed to be Muslim, were seen wearing women's attire.

However, their actions have sparked criticism from netizens, who argue that such behaviour should not be normalised in the country. Many view it as contradictory to Islamic teachings and inconsistent with Malay cultural values.
