Suspect in Kuantan murder case arrested in Kuala Terengganu


PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a man believed to be the suspect in the murder of food vendor Norshamira Zainal, 37, whose body was found by the Kuantan River near the Tanjung Lumpur Bridge last Thursday.

Kuantan OCPD, Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu, said the 53-year-old suspect was apprehended at 5:30am on Saturday (Feb 15) at a house in the Wakaf Tembesu residential area, Gong Badak, Kuala Terengganu.

According to him, the arrest was carried out by a team from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Pahang and Terengganu contingents.

"Following the suspect’s arrest, police recovered and seized a ring, cash, clothing, and documents to aid in the investigation.

"A remand application for the suspect will be submitted at the Kuantan Magistrate's Court (Saturday)," he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.

ACP Wan Mohd Zahari added that with the suspect's arrest, police have successfully solved the murder case involving a female trader who was found dead by the Kuantan River near the Tanjung Lumpur Bridge last Thursday (Feb 13).

"The police express their gratitude to the public for providing information that assisted in the investigation," he said.
