Radio DJ helps Bomba personnel talk man out of suicide attempt

KUALA LUMPUR: A suicide attempt was prevented after firefighters and a radio DJ talked the person out of it.

In a statement Friday (Feb 14), the City Fire and Rescue Department said that the incident occurred earlier Friday at Menara Lembaga Pertubuhan Peladang.

According to the statement, the man himself had alerted the department to his suicide attempt.

"The call was answered by a Kuala Lumpur operations room officer and the officer's calmness and expertise in handling the call placated the victim during the 30-minute call," it said.

A team was also deployed to the scene at the same time.

"The individual also asked to speak with an acquaintance of his, a local celebrity and radio DJ Ajak Shiro. The officer that took the call managed to contact the celebrity before forwarding the call to him," it said.

The man was finally convinced to give up on his attempt at the scene by firefighters and the DJ, who had also gone to the scene.

"The operation was concluded at 12.29pm. He has been handed over to the police for further action," it said.
