Negri Sembilan Umno denies plot to topple state unity government

SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan Umno has rubbished talk that its assemblymen had planned the downfall of the unity government in the state at a meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

State Wanita Umno chief Puan Sri Bibi Sharliza Mohd Khalid said those responsible for spreading such lies should provide proof.

"But if there is none, then please stop this culture of slander and speculation as the spreading of such talk will only erode the people's confidence in democratic institutions," she said in a statement on Wednesday (June 10).

Earlier, it was reported that a 13-page letter allegedly from Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to PAS leaders suggested that Perikatan Nasional had held prior discussions with the state Umno to unseat Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

This allegedly happened before the 14 Negri Sembilan Umno assemblymen withdrew support for Aminuddin.

The alleged letter was dated May 25. The state assembly was dissolved on June 5.

Bibi Sharliza described the allegation as a desperate attempt to divert the people's attention from the state's royal and adat (customary laws) crises.
