Pahang cops tracking down suspect in murder of woman near Tanjung Lumpur bridge

KUANTAN: Police have a suspect in the murder of the woman whose body was found by the riverbank near the Tanjung Lumpur bridge here on Thursday (Feb 13).

Pahang police chief Comm Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said they are tracking down the 37-year-old man, a resident of the district, to help with the investigation.

He added that the suspect has a criminal record and is unrelated to the victim, who sold food.

"It is learnt that the suspect ordered food from the woman and they met at the scene for a cash-on-delivery (COD) transaction.

"Initial investigations revealed that the woman’s jewellery was missing and there were signs of injury on her body,” he said on Friday (Feb 14), adding that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

It was reported earlier that the 37-year-old woman was found dead by the riverbank around noon, and the police, along with forensic pathology experts from Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan, found signs of foul play on her body.

Comm Yahaya earlier witnessed the handing over of duties of the deputy state police chief at Pahang police contingent headquarters here.

Pahang CID chief Datuk Mohd Yusri Othman is now acting deputy chief in place of Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin, who has been appointed Perak police chief.

Pahang Special Branch (Operational Intelligence) deputy chief Asst Comm Mohd Faudzi Abd Rahman has been appointed acting chief of the state Special Branch.

He replaces Datuk Mohammad Shaharul Md Osman, who has been appointed principal assistant director of Bukit Aman E2 Special Branch. – Bernama
