Forklift driver dies after his vehicle falls into deep drain in Kluang


KLUANG: A forklift driver, identified as Arifin Jujok, died after falling into a six-meter-deep drain while operating the vehicle along Jalan Berlian 2 in Taman Berlian Biru.

The authorities were alerted to the incident, which occurred around 1.50pm on Friday (Feb 14).

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh confirmed the incident and stated that Arifin Jujok, in his 40s and from Kampung Sri Lukut in Kahang, was found unconscious at the scene.

"The victim was found lying unconscious because of the incident while manning the forklift as there were some upgrading works being done at the location.

"The forklift driven by the victim was also found inside the drain. Checks made by Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital medical officer found he died at the scene," he said on Friday (Feb 14) night.

ACP Bahrin added that there were no signs of crime or mischief involved.

"Initial investigation found that the cause is due to the victim’s failure in manning the forklift, causing it to fall into the drain. The victim’s body has been sent to the same hospital for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death," he said, adding that police classified the case as sudden death.

In an unrelated case, ACP Bahrin reported a 21-year-old motorcyclist died following a fatal road accident with a five-tonne bonded lorry at KM76 along Jalan Johor Baru-Ayer Hitam.

The victim, identified as Mohamad Faiszy Mohd Misraside, worked as a factory operator.

"Police received information at around 2.20pm from the public about an incident involving a motorcycle and a lorry. Initial investigation found that the victim was coming from Simpang Renggam and was heading towards Machap while the lorry was coming out from a factory and heading in the same direction," he added.

ACP Bahrin stated that the lorry suddenly emerged from a junction by turning left, and the victim was unable to avoid and hit the vehicle's left side.

He added that due to the crash, the victim died at the scene from serious injuries, and the 53-year-old lorry driver has been detained to assist with the investigation.
