Explosive fire at power station in PD successfully extinguished

Fire and Rescue personnel outside the plant last night.

PORT DICKSON: A fire believed to have been caused by a series of explosions at the Tenaga Nasional's Tuanku Ja'afar power station here has been put out.

Tenaga Nasional in a post said to date, no injuries have been reported.

"We are working with the Fire and Rescue Department in our investigations.

"We have taken all safety precautions and our technical teams are carrying out the necessary checks and rehabilitation works," it said.

The utility company said operations at the power station were under control.

A Fire and Rescue department spokesman said preliminary investigations revealed that the explosion may have been caused due to a leaking gas pipe.

"The fire did not affect the structure of the building or the power plant," he added.

Firemen from here and a Hazmat team from Seremban were rushed to the power plant around 9.10pm on Thursday (Feb 13) after residents reported hearing several explosions coming from the plant.

Residents living several kilometres away as far as Chuah could feel the vibrations caused by the explosions.
