Groom-to-be fined RM7,500 for molesting woman, having porn on mobile phone

SEREMBAN: A 25-year-old groom-to-be was fined RM7,500 for molesting a woman and having pornographic material in his handphone after he pleaded guilty to both charges at the Magistrate's Court here.

Azirul Afiq Adzelan Ahmad did not contest the charges after they were read to him before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli.

For the first charge, the accused pleaded guilty to using criminal force to outrage the modesty of a 21-year-old woman by touching her buttocks.

He was charged with committing the offence at a convenience store at the southbound R&R along the North South Expressway near Nilai just past midnight on Feb 10.

For this, he was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine, whipping or any two of the punishments upon conviction.

For the second charge, Azirul Afiq Adzelan was charged with having three pornographic clips in his handphone.

He was charged with committing the offence at 5pm on the same day at the Nilai police station.

The accused was charged under Section 292 of the Penal Code, which provides a jail term of up to three years or a fine or both upon conviction.

Azirul Afiq Adzelan, who was represented by Ng Yunn Yiing from the Legal Aid Department, pleaded for a minimum fine, stating that he was remorseful for his actions.

She also told the court that the accused would be getting married soon and had to provide for his parents and three siblings.

Ng told the court that the accused, who sold perfumes to earn a living, could not hold a proper job as he only completed education up to Form Five.

Deputy public prosecutor Nik Nur Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi asked the court to impose a sentence which commensurate the offences.

Nurul Saqinah then fined the accused RM4,000 in default seven months’ jail for the first offence and RM3,500 fine in default six months’ imprisonment for the second.
