KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a woman who hit her daughter, causing the daughter to fall and hit her head on the corner of a bench, resulting in a bleeding forehead in front of a supermarket in Jejawi, Arau, on Monday (Feb 10), Malay language portal Astro Awani reports.

According to Arau OCPD Supt Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi, the 37-year-old suspect who works as a canteen worker was detained in her rented room in Jejawi at around 11.30pm Monday night.

"The victim is the suspect's four-year-old daughter and she was found to have a stitched wound on the right eyebrow.

"The incident is believed to have happened in front of a sidewalk of a supermarket in Jejawi, and the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001," he said in a statement today.

Through a viral closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording, the woman involved, who was carrying another child, was seen rushing towards the girl before hitting her.

She then pulled the child's hand and hit her again, causing the little girl to fall to the floor.

The child was seen getting up and crying before the woman hit her harder on the back.

The blow caused the child's forehead to hit the corner of a bench there, causing it to bleed.
