Brake failure leads to car crash injuring driver, security guard


JOHOR BARU: A car crash due to brake failure at the Taman Universiti public market in Skudai has injured a driver and a security guard.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said that the incident occurred at 2pm on Sunday (Feb 9) when a 31-year-old male driver heading from Mutiara Rini to Taman Universiti lost control of his vehicle due to brake malfunction.

“The car subsequently crashed into the market's entrance gate and security post, striking a 21-year-old security guard who was inside the post.

“As a result, the driver sustained injuries to his chest, left and right arms, and right leg, while the security guard suffered injuries to his left and right arms as well as his face,” he said in a statement.

He added that both individuals received outpatient treatment at Sultanah Aminah Hospital.

The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules LN 166/59 for failure to control a vehicle, with the driver issued a RM300 compound fine.
