JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested four teenage boys and two women for allegedly stealing jewellery worth more than RM157,000 from a praying altar inside a house in Skudai here.
Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said a 32-year-old local man lodged a police report at around 11.17pm on last Sunday (Feb 2).
“The victim stated that on that day, at around 8pm, he realised that the jewellery he owns went missing inside his house at Taman Harmoni here.
“Investigation at the scene found that the jewellery was kept at a praying altar inside the victim’s house where there were no signs of break-ins,” he said here on Friday (Feb 7).
ACP Balveer added that from Monday (Feb 3) until Wednesday (Feb 5), police arrested four male youths, aged between 17 and 18 as well as two females, aged 35 and 42 years respectively around Skudai.
He also said that police also made several seizures from the suspects including seven pawn shop receipts and one repurchase receipt from them.
ACP Balveer added besides the receipts, police also recovered some of the missing jewellery.
He said police found one yellow coloured necklace with stones, two yellow coloured bracelet threads, one yellow coloured ring, three nose piercings with stones, six yellow coloured earrings, two yellow coloured necklaces and two yellow coloured earring pendants with stones worth RM70,000.
“One of the suspects is the victim’s nephew while the rest are friends of the suspect.
“Further checks found none of them have previous records where they are all under remand until this Sunday (Feb 9) to assist with the investigation under Section 380 of the Penal Code,” he said.
In an unrelated case, ACP Balveer said that a 21-year-old local male died in a road accident along Jalan Persisiran Perling here early Friday.
He added that police received a report about the fatal incident at around 12.15am involving a motorcycle heading towards Bukit Indah.
“Investigation showed that the victim lost control of his motorcycle where it crashed into a road divider causing the victim to fall into a drain.
“The victim died at the scene due to serious head injury,” he said adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
