Wheat flour worth RM16,181 seized from Ipoh factory for exceeding storage limit

IPOH: A total of 235 bags of wheat flour valued at RM16,181 were seized by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry at a factory for exceeding the storage limit allowed under its licence.

Perak Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said the enforcement team conducted an inspection at a biscuit factory in Gunung Rapat here on Wednesday (Feb 5) at 10.30am.

He said during the inspection, a large quantity of wheat flour was found stored in the factory's warehouse.

Further checks revealed that the factory had a permit to store controlled items, specifically wheat flour, with a maximum allowed limit of 5,000kg.

A thorough inspection confirmed that the factory had exceeded this limit by storing an additional 5,875kg of wheat flour, he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 5).

Kamalludin added that the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for allegedly failing to comply with the conditions set under the permit by storing more than the permitted amount of the controlled item.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry issues a stern warning to all relevant parties to comply with the laws and regulations in place.

Individuals found guilty under Section 122 of the Act may face a fine of up to RM1mil for a first offence and up to RM3mil or a maximum of three years imprisonment, or both.

For companies, the penalty for a first offence is a fine of up to RM2mil, while subsequent offences can result in fines of up to RM5mil, he said.
