Two arrested to help in probe into elderly woman's murder in Skudai

JOHOR BARU: A man and a woman were arrested for allegedly being involved in the murder of a senior citizen at a house in Taman Sri Skudai in Skudai near here.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said the suspects were detained following a report of the murder on Wednesday (Feb 5) at 7.08pm.

“When we arrived at the scene, we found a woman lying unconscious in the living room covered with kain batik,’’ he said in a statement.

ACP Balveer said an examination by the Sultanah Aminah Hospital later confirmed that the 79-year-old local woman had died.

He said initial investigations showed several items belonging to the victim were missing and believed to have been taken by the suspects.

“Further investigation found that there were elements of crime leading to death,’’ said ACP Balveer.

ACP Balveer said police have detained a 51-year-old local man and a 58-year-old local woman and seized items belonging to the victim from the two suspects.

He said the items were two mobile phones, a SIM Card, clothes belonging to the suspects, a pillow and a piece of a pawnbroker’s receipt.

“One suspect has a previous criminal record with drug-related offences while the other one has no criminal record,’’ said ACP Balveer.

He said the suspects have been remanded from Feb 6 until 12 and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
