Search ongoing for man feared drowned in Menggatal, Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: A man is feared drowned while searching for clams at a beach in Menggatal, near here on Wednesday (Feb 5) night.

Marwah Jamiri, 45, had gone to the beach with his father-in-law and a friend at Kg Kebagu at around 8pm to search for snails and clams.

However, when it was time to return at around 9.30pm, the father-in-law and friend could not find the man.

A search was mounted between friends and family but they failed to locate Marwah.

Kota Kinabalu Fire Station chef Ordine Gilu said a distress call was received at 6.14am, Thursday (Feb 6).

A team of seven firemen was dispatched to search for the missing man, he said when contacted.

“Search and rescue operations are being conducted at the moment,” he said.
