Foreigner in Tawau runs amok, fights family before being arrested

KOTA KINABALU: A man who went amok and threatened public safety has been nabbed in Tawau early Thursday (Feb 6).

The 23-year-old immigrant, believed to have been under the influence of drugs, had turned aggressive at around 12.40am and went around breaking things in a house at Batu 3, Jalan Apas.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said they received a call from the suspect’s brother-in-law, and a team was sent to respond.

“We were informed that the suspect suddenly ran amok, going around destroying things in the house and got into a huge scuffle with some family members as they tried to calm him down,” he said in a statement.

He said the suspect was apprehended after that, without further incident.

ACP Jasmin said the suspect was taken to the Tawau Police Station for further action and investigations.

He said they are investigating the cause of the incident and did not rule out drug abuse or being under the influence of drugs as the reason.

He said the case is being probed for mischief and causing loss or damage as well as the Immigration Act 1959/63.

No one was seriously injured in the incident.
