KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims placed in temporary relief centres (PPS) in Johor, Sarawak, and Sabah has increased as of 8am on Thursday (Feb 6) compared to Wednesday (Feb 5).
In Johor, the latest state to be hit by floods since yesterday afternoon, the number of evacuees has slightly increased to 372 from 364 Wednesday night.
State Disaster Management Committee chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani stated that all victims are housed in three PPS in the Kota Tinggi district: Dewan Muafakat Taman Desaru Utama with 172 people, Dewan Kampung Baru Sungai Mas (40 people), and Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar Penawar (160 people).
"Additionally, the Sungai Kahang station in Kampung Contoh, Kluang, has surpassed the danger level with a reading of 14.57m," he said in a statement on Thursday.
Sarawak remains severely affected, with an increase in evacuees at 30 PPS to 5,384 from 5,125 last night, following days of decline.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported increases in Sibu Division to 1,142 from 876 people, and Mukah Division to 528 from 501 people on Wednesday night.
"The number of evacuees in Bintulu Division slightly decreased to 1,864 from 1,865 people, as did Miri Division, which reduced to 1,184 from 1,217 people, while the numbers in Serian (507), Samarahan (149), and Sarikei (10) remain the same," it said.
In Sabah, Keningau became the latest district to be hit by floods late last night, alongside Kinabatangan.
The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported an increase in flood victims to 319 from 82 families this morning, compared to 228 from 60 families at 8pm on Wednesday night.
"A total of 66 people (16 families) were moved to a PPS in Keningau, while 253 people (65 families) are sheltered in two PPS in Kinabatangan," the committee stated. - Bernama
