Govt accounts assistant faces 16 charges of falsifying hotel claims

KOTA KINABALU: A state government administrative accounts assistant has been slapped with 16 charges of falsifying hotel accommodation claims amounting to some RM20,000.

The accused, Sharin Lusiyau, 37, pleaded not guilty after the charges under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 were read before Judge Jason Juga at the Special Corruption Court here on Wednesday (Feb 5).

Sharin allegedly used 23 hotel receipts to make fraudulent claims from the Sabah State Treasurer's Department here.

He was also accused of committing the offences by fraudulently using the receipts under the names of four people who had not stayed at the hotels during the period from Feb 23 to July 14, 2023.

The court granted Sharin bail set at RM12,000 with one local surety.

Judge Juga also ordered the accused to report bi-monthly to the Sabah MACC Office here and to surrender his international passport.

The trial is scheduled for April 9.

Prosecutor Nurul Izzati Sapifee led the case while Martin Tommy Durasim represented Sharin.
