NREB launches investigation into Sungai Krangan logjam following public concern

KUCHING: The Sarawak Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) has initiated an investigation into the logjam at Sungai Krangan in Balai Ringin following public concerns.

The investigation was carried out to identify the source of the wood debris in the river.

"Recognising the severity of this issue, NREB is taking immediate action," the agency said in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 4).

NREB also coordinated with other agencies to remove the debris.

"Cleanup efforts are being coordinated with public agencies and private sector partners," it said.

On Monday (Feb 3), Balai Ringin assemblyman Datuk Snowdan Lawan called for stern action against a plantation company for allegedly causing the logjam in Sungai Krangan.

He said this was the fourth instance of the logjam occurring, noting that 47 fishermen had raised their concerns to him after their nets were damaged.
