Gobind: National AI Office looks into developing AI solutions in five areas

KUALA LUMPUR: The National AI Office is looking into developing AI solutions in five areas, transport, health, agriculture, SMEs, MSMEs, and government digital services, says Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

He said that the office is isolating problems in these sectors, and finding solutions with AI, adding that the office is given three months to work on it.

Gobind said that the implementation of AI and tech must be done at a faster pace.

“We need to move a lot faster. We need to start delivering in-term solutions that deal with problems in all sectors,” he said during his keynote speech at the launch of 5G Advanced here on Tuesday (Feb 4).

Speaking to reporters, Gobind added that the office is working with all the ministries to look at what the problems are.

“We are creating centres of excellence in the ministries themselves, run by officials from the ministries, and headed by the ministers themselves," he said.

Meanwhile, Gobind also said that Malaysia is the first Asean country to launch the 5G Advanced, a new generation of 5G network.

Digital Nasional Berhad chief executive officer Datuk Azman Ismail said that 5G Advanced builds upon the existing 5G infrastructure to offer enhanced capabilities and performance.

It promises better network reliability and reduced latency, which is absolutely crucial for applications requiring real-time responses, he said.

He said that 5G Advanced has also integrated AI and Machine Learning to enable smarter network management.

The network, he added, will empower more demanding applications, including extended reality (XR), augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and high-definition video streaming.
