Tiong urges firm police action against gang violence in Bintulu

SIBU: The police have been told to take stern action against criminals following a shocking incident in which a gang member attacked another person with scissors.

A video of the violent assault has gone viral on social media, raising public concerns over safety and fears that criminal gangs are gaining control in Bintulu.

"I have been informed that the suspect has surrendered to the police. I urge Bintulu OCPD, Supt Nixson, and his team to take firm action according to the law. There must be no leniency in such serious crimes – we must crack down on gang violence! This incident is too severe to be ignored," Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said on Monday (Feb 3)

In a Facebook post, Tiong said that many residents had shared the video with him, voicing concerns that Bintulu is no longer safe.

"This is the final warning! I do not want to see such violent acts happening again. I strongly advise those involved in gang activities to leave before it is too late.

"If you continue to break the law and cause trouble, you will have to face the consequences," he warned.

Tiong emphasised that the rise of gang-related violence in Bintulu must be stopped immediately to prevent criminals from believing they can operate with impunity.

Addressing allegations that he has links to criminal groups, he firmly denied any involvement and reaffirmed his stance against crime.

"Some have falsely accused me of having connections with gangsters. Let me make this clear - I fully support the law and will never tolerate violence or crime.

"I will not protect lawbreakers. No matter who I meet, my advice is always the same – follow the law and choose the right path," he stated.

Tiong stressed that conflicts should be resolved legally and not through violence, expressing his hope that Bintulu remains a safe place for all.

"My biggest hope is for the people of Bintulu to live in peace and safety. I fully support those who work hard to earn an honest living.

"But for those who think they can use gang influence to create fear and disturb society, I will stand firmly with the police to ensure strict enforcement of the law – without exception!" he declared.
