KUALA LUMPUR: A high-achieving accounting student who ranked second globally in the Foundation in Accountancy (FIA) examination by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on Jalan Hulu Langat-Ampang on Sunday evening.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said that Aysar Zahran Saiful Alimin, 20, who was unemployed, died after his motorcycle was struck by an MPV that veered into the opposite lane at approximately 4:45pm.

The accident also involved three other motorcycles and another MPV, all travelling from Hulu Langat to Ampang.

“The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while five other individuals, including motorcycle riders and pillion passengers, sustained injuries and were taken to Ampang Hospital for treatment.

“The drivers of both cars were unharmed. It is understood that all those involved in the accident were aged between 17 and 38,” he said in a statement on Monday (Feb 3)

He added that the 27-year-old male driver of the MPV had been detained, and a remand application would be submitted on Monday. The vehicle has been sent to the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) for examination, and investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Members of the public with information are urged to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Narolhisyam Endi, at 019-5897115.
