Penang Fire and Rescue Department director Mohamad Shoki Hamzah said the department received a distress call at 7.18am and immediately dispatched a team to the scene.

"Upon arrival, firefighters found that the blaze had engulfed a 22.3-square-metre workshop, destroying about 80% of the structure. Several vehicles were also involved in the fire.

"A 64-year-old male victim suffered burns to his back. He was given initial treatment at the scene before being taken to the hospital for further medical attention,” he said when contacted on Sunday.
