Briton held at KLIA with 31kg of ganja

SHAH ALAM: A 36-year-old British man was detained with 31kg of ganja at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) last week.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the suspect, who works as a security guard in England, was detained at about 10.30pm on Jan 24.

"We detained the suspect, who was carrying two suitcases.

"The bags were filled with 31 packs of ganja," he told a press conference at state police headquarters here on Friday (Jan 31).

The suspect tested positive for THC, he added.

"The suspect was about to board a flight to London when he was nabbed," he said.

In another case, two Sarawakian men were detained with over 30.3kg of syabu, Comm Hussein said.

"We detained both suspects, aged 18 and 25, at KLIA on Jan 22.

"The drugs were meant for the market in Miri, Sarawak.

"We believe they were drug mules, who were each paid RM600 per kilogramme of the drug," he said.

Comm Hussein said the narcotics seized in both cases were worth RM1.06mil and were enough for 122,000 drug abusers.
