Some 20,000 expected to attend Sabah CNY open house in SICC on Thursday


KOTA KINABALU: The public are invited to attend the state Chinese New Year Open House 2025 at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here this Thursday.

Attendance is expected to be around 20,000 for the event which will start from 10am until 2pm, according to Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister permanent secretary Datuk Josie Lai.

Yang di-Pertua Negeri TYT Tun Musa Aman will be the guest of honour for the event, where the state cabinet ministers will be present, she said during the rehearsal for the event on Tuesday night (Jan 28).

“We invite citizens from around Kota Kinabalu and neighbouring areas to attend the open house,” she added.

Meanwhile, Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst CommKasim Muda in a statement, advised the public attending the event to plan ahead for their travel on Thursday and carpool to avoid traffic congestion.

“For those not attending the open house, motorists who are using Jalan Tanjung Lipat and Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens heading for the city centre, are advised to use alternative routes to avoid traffic jams.

“The cooperation of all parties is appreciated to ensure the event and traffic movement go smoothly,” he added.
