KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud has called on Malaysians to respect the Federal Territories Pardons Board's decision regarding Datuk Seri Najib Razak, urging the public to prioritise political stability and the nation's economic recovery.
In a statement on Saturday (Sept 19), Mustapha, who serves as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs), stressed that continued support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is vital to driving the Madani administration’s reform agenda forward.
"For the people of Borneo, the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is very much needed so that the Madani Government can continue to focus on fulfilling unresolved demands under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and enhancing development allocations for Sabah and Sarawak," Mustapha said.
Addressing public concerns, Mustapha affirmed that the Pardons Board acted within the powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong under the Federal Constitution.
He clarified that upholding the constitution does not undermine the rule of law, noting that Najib’s conditional pardon applies strictly to the SRC International case, while all remaining criminal charges against the former prime minister will proceed in court.
