KAJANG: About 50 media practitioners took part in a shooting competition organised by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the MACC Shooting Programme with the Media at the Malaysian Prison Academy here on Saturday (Sept 19).
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said the programme served as a platform to strengthen ties, understanding and trust between the commission and the media.
“Today’s programme is not merely a recreational activity or a test of shooting accuracy. It was planned in conjunction with MACC’s 59th anniversary celebrations on Oct 1.
“More importantly, it is a platform to strengthen ties, improve understanding and build trust between MACC and media practitioners,” he said.
In the men’s individual accuracy category, Mohd Afzal Indrose of Channel News Asia (CNA) emerged champion with 174 points, followed by Muhammad Afham Ramli of Sinar Harian, also with 174 points. Hafidzul Hilmi Md Noor of Harian Metro was third with 168 points.
Justin Zack Yusof of The Star finished fourth with 165 points, while Muhammad Najmi bin Zulkefle of Malaysia Tribune was fifth with 163 points.
In the women’s individual accuracy category, Nurayuni Johari of Malaysia Gazette won with 151 points, followed by Nurul Yasmin Jasri of Astro Awani (138), Lon Kar Mun of China Press (133), Nuraina Hanis Abd Halim of Utusan Malaysia (129) and Wong Ci En of China Press (120).
Meanwhile, Abd Halim said the programme allowed media practitioners to experience, albeit on a different scale, the precision, discipline, focus, emotional control and accuracy required of MACC officers in carrying out their duties.
He said handling firearms also required discipline, self-control and strict adherence to safety procedures.
“Likewise, the use of firearms is not merely about strength or courage, but requires discipline, self-control, compliance with safety procedures and a high level of responsibility,” he said.
Abd Halim also described the media as an important strategic partner in MACC’s efforts to combat corruption, particularly in delivering accurate and responsible information to the public.
