Snake pays ‘house visit’ in Ranau on CNY eve

Firefighters used snake snare to catch the about eight-feet-long spitting cobra in Ranay on Tuesday night.

KOTA KINABALU: While many were ushering in the Year of the Snake, a family in Ranau found themselves calling the Fire and Rescue Department to deal with an unexpected guest - an actual reptile under their house.

Ranau Fire and Rescue Services Station chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said a team of five were rushed to Kampung Maukab Baru Lohan after receiving a distress call at 8.24pm on Tuesday (Jan 28).

The team arrived at the scene, some 13 kilometres away from the station, at 8.38pm.

“We found the slithering cobra, about seven to eight feet long, curled under their house. The team captured the reptile using a snare.

"The odds of an actual snake paying a 'house visit' as we celebrate the Year of the Snake are certainly an unexpected turn of events," he said, when contacted.

After securing the area, the operation was concluded by 9pm, with no casualties reported and the family could safely usher in the new year without any reptile interruptions.
