Razman Zakaria files police report over accusations in social media post

IPOH: Perak PAS chief Razman Zakaria has lodged a police report over a social media post that he claims is false and defamatory.

The Gunung Semanggol assemblyman also complained to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

He said the post, published via the Harakatdaily HD Facebook account, alleged that he defended accusations against the Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, claiming she is the daughter of a Chinese tycoon linked to the YTL Group.

“The post also quoted me saying that PAS had sufficient funds in its donation account to cover legal expenses.

“I strongly deny making any such statement. I refute this claim, as I never made such remarks.

“This is a clear case of misinformation that must be addressed,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 29).

Razman urged the authorities to investigate the owner of the Facebook account and take appropriate action against those responsible for spreading false information.

He also emphasised the importance of curbing the spread of fake news on social media.

On Monday (Jan 27), Razman issued a statement apologising to Yeoh, stating he admitted that he had been wrong in linking her to YTL Corporation Bhd.

Yeoh told Razman on X to wait for her lawyer’s letter. She said defamation cannot be allowed to become a habit, especially among religious people.
