IPOH: Perak PAS chief Razman Zakaria has admitted that he was wrong in linking Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh (pic) to YTL Corporation Bhd, and has apologised for the error.
The Gunong Semanggol assemblyman had earlier claimed in a video that Hannah was the “daughter of a rich man” and a “daughter of YTL”.
YTL was founded as a construction company in 1955 by the late Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay and has since become the country’s largest conglomerate with activities ranging from construction to utilities, hotels and property development.
The minister is not related to the tycoon.
“I admit that (Hannah) Yeoh has no connection with YTL. It was an error that occurred unintentionally.
“With my statement, I express my regret, and apologise to Yeoh and YTL, as well as to any parties affected or offended by the factual confusion in my statement,” Razman said in a statement yesterday.
Hannah had on Monday lashed out at Razman for claiming she was linked to the Yeoh family which owns YTL.
“PAS needs to know that not all Yeohs are related,” she said in a post on X.
Hannah, known for her vocal stance on integrity in politics, reiterated that such baseless allegations only divert attention from real issues affecting the nation.
Razman’s allegations were seen as an attempt to undermine Hannah’s credibility.
This isn’t the first time Razman has been embroiled in controversy as he has previously faced criticism for making unsubstantiated claims during political campaigns.
Yesterday, Razman said he was disappointed by news coverage on his speech at a programme in Seri Iskandar which had homed in on his statement about Hannah and YTL when he had made a speech of over 30 minutes.
“The report seems to have deliberately sought out the mistake.
“The Gerak Muafakat Ummah programme was a three-day event involving the three main PAS wings, with a total attendance of more than 5,000 people.”
