KOTA KINABALU: Continuous rain caused flash floods in Kampung Suasa, Beaufort, on Monday (Jan 27) morning, forcing 25 families to evacuate their homes.
Beaufort fire station chief Mohammad Hasbullah Nenggok said a team of eight personnel, led by operations commander Abdul Khalid, was dispatched following a distress call at 9.55am.
The team arrived at the location, some 29km from the station, at 10.20am.
They brought the affected families to safety with the help of boats from local villagers as well as police lorries.
"To date, 25 families have been evacuated from the flood-affected area and transported to the Dewan Selagon temporary relief centre," Hasbullah said.
He added that evacuation operations were still ongoing and that updated victim numbers would be provided soon.
Recent intermittent downpours have caused flash floods across Sabah, keeping authorities on high alert.
