Cops hunt man who slapped wife at shopping mall

PETALING JAYA: Police are currently tracking down a man who slapped his wife at a shopping mall in Kota Warisan recently.

Sepang District Police Chief, ACP Norhizam Bahaman, said a report was lodged by the victim’s sister following a viral video showing the man’s actions.

“The complainant, who is the victim’s sister, confirmed that the woman who was assaulted is her 35-year-old elder sister.

“The man who hit the victim is a local in his 50s and the victim’s husband,” he said in a statement on Monday (Jan 27).

ACP Norhizam added that the police are in the process of recording statements from witnesses regarding the incident and are actively locating both the suspect and the victim.

“The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18 of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.

“Anyone with relevant information can contact Investigating Officer, Assistant Superintendent Mahafiz Mat Lawi, at 010-2396533,” he said.

Earlier, a 29-second video went viral showing a woman walking out of a shopping mall holding plastic bags.

As she approached the exit, she stopped abruptly upon seeing the suspect, who was wearing a cap and holding a child’s hand, walking towards her.

The man then slapped the woman’s face in public while saying something to her. The woman was then seen leaving the premises.
