Chinese community plays vital role in Sarawak’s development, says Wan Junaidi in CNY message

KUCHING: The Chinese community has played an important role in Sarawak's economy, politics, education and social development, says Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

The Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri said the Chinese continue to be strategic partners in the state's development through various initiatives led by Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.

He said this support had contributed to Sarawak's economic growth, benefiting all Sarawakians regardless of race.

"Chinese New Year gives us the opportunity to appreciate the contributions of the Chinese community to Sarawak's development.

In his Chinese New Year message on Monday (Jan 27), he said, "As a multicultural state, Sarawak is fortunate to foster unity and prosperity amid our diversity."

Wan Junaidi said inclusive and resilient development policies were the foundation of lasting prosperity.

As such, he called for close cooperation among different races to ensure mutual well-being.

"In this respect, the Bumiputra community should strengthen their cooperation with the Chinese, with both communities sharing their experience and expertise in various sectors for mutual benefit.

"The exchange of knowledge and skills will boost the potential and competitiveness of the Bumiputra community for a more inclusive development while strengthening ties with the Chinese community," he said.

He added that meritocracy and unity should be prioritised to ensure fair and holistic development for all.

Wan Junaidi also wished a happy Chinese New Year to all Sarawakians celebrating the occasion.

"Let us move forward together to build a bright future for Sarawak and its people," he said.
