JOHOR BARU: A Singaporean woman who claimed she was almost kidnapped at a shopping mall here has come out to clarify the “misunderstanding”.
The 46-year-old content creator, who only wished to be known as Ho, said she had misused the word “kidnap” in the video she made to warn others of a group, which forced victims to inhale anaesthetic agents before robbing them.
She explained that she had no intention to cause panic among the public.
Ho’s video went viral on social media with many netizens questioning why she did not lodge a police report while accusing her of making up the story to tarnish the city’s image.
Due to this, she lodged a report at the Larkin police station on Jan 22, following advice from Johor Bersatu associate wing public complaints bureau chief Lim Thow Siang.
During a press conference yesterday, Ho said she bumped into a man and a woman promoting herbal tea products at a mall in Taman Abad at 1pm on Jan 10.
“The woman gave me some tea samples to smell and after that, I experienced dizziness and felt weak. I only remember bits and pieces, like the man grabbed me, causing me to fall and hit my head. Some people asked if I was fine and offered to take me to a doctor,” she said.
Ho, who lives here, said she fell unconscious and the next thing she knew was that she had arrived at her apartment.
“After returning home, I constantly felt tired and sleepy for the next three days,” she added.
She said she lost her handbag containing RM400, which she suspected was taken by the man.
When contacted, Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat confirmed receiving the report, saying that Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar would issue a press statement soon.
