One killed, four hurt in two-vehicle crash in Lahad Datu

KOTA KINABALU: A 52-year-old man died on the spot in a collision between a pickup truck and a car at the Jalan Pantai traffic lights in Lahad Datu.

Four people were injured in the 3.30am Sunday (Jan 26) accident, Lahad Datu fire station chief Samoa Rashid said.

One of the five people in the car was trapped in the wreckage and despite efforts by firefighters, Samoa said he was confirmed dead at the scene.

The four other occupants of the car, including three adults and one child, were taken to the hospital for treatment while the driver of the pickup truck was unhurt, he added.

He said a team of eight firefighters led by operations commander Suait Mohammad was dispatched to the scene, about 3km from the station, when the distress call came in.

The operation concluded at 4.51am after the rescue team ensured there were no further hazards at the scene, he said.
