JOHOR BARU: A mother and her teenage daughter were found dead in a luxury car at Bandar Baru Uda here.
Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh stated that the 42-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter are believed to have been shopping nearby before stopping to take a break.
"Based on the last text messages found on the mother's phone, we believe they were at the scene to rest after shopping in the area.
"We are still investigating the matter, but early findings suggest there was a petrol leakage in the car's engine, which caused fumes to enter the air conditioning system.
"So far, no criminal elements are involved," he said, adding that their bodies have been sent to Hospital Sultanah Aminah for a postmortem.
He shared this information during a press conference at the Johor Baru North police headquarters on Friday (Jan 24).
ACP Balveer added that the police received a report about the incident from a passerby at around 10pm on Thursday (Jan 23).
"According to witnesses at the scene, the car engine was still running when they were found," he noted.
In an unrelated matter, ACP Balveer said that the police had arrested two men involved in a house break-in case on Tuesday (Jan 21).
"We received a report from the house owner at about 10.33am on Tuesday (Jan 21) and managed to arrest them by 11.30am on the same day.
"The two local men, aged between 22 and 27, are also believed to be involved in four other cases in the Johor Baru North area," he said.
Various items were seized from the duo, including a laptop, a phone, two helmets, a necklace, and a car.
"One of them has a criminal record involving 20 cases, while the other does not have any criminal records.
"Both suspects also tested positive for methamphetamine," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code and Section 39C(1)(b) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
One suspect was remanded for four days until Jan 25, while the other for five days until Jan 26.
"We will be applying for another remand order for their involvement in other cases as well," he stated.
