SEREMBAN: After being abandoned for more than three decades, the Taman Rasah Jaya Surau has finally been revitalised and is now bustling with religious activities, especially as Ramadan approaches.
Its chairman Ahmad Kamal Bahrin Abdul Rahman, 63, said the 993sq m surau is located about 1km from the Rasah Jaya Mosque.
He said the surau had previously fallen into disrepair, lacked water and electricity supply, and was overgrown with weeds.
It has since been restored and is being used for various community activities, particularly religious and fardhu ain classes for children, he said.
“We have been striving for a long time to restore the surau. The local community worked tirelessly, cleaning and restoring this long-neglected place of worship.
“The original state of the surau was disheartening with a damaged roof, overgrown weeds and broken structures.
“With collective effort and cooperation, we successfully repaired the building at a cost of RM50,000, funded by public donations and support from the state government,” he told Bernama.
He added that as Ramadan nears, many activities are being planned including Quran recitation sessions, Quran reading classes, fardhu ain lessons and motivational seminars throughout the holy month.
Ahmad Kamal Bahrin said they were fortunate to receive help and contributions to revive the surau, which can accommodate up to 200 people.
He said the surau’s management committee also sought assistance from the Negri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council and the state government, as well as the public through donations to ensure the surau remains active in conducting various activities.
