PETALING JAYA: DAP will defend all its incumbent seats in Johor and Negri Sembilan in the upcoming state polls while seeking to contest additional constituencies in Johor, says party secretary-general Anthony Loke.
Loke also said that DAP’s 2026 National Congress, originally scheduled for July 12, has been postponed to Aug 16 following the dissolution of the Johor and Negri Sembilan state assemblies.
“DAP will contest several additional seats in Johor, subject to the outcome of negotiations with Pakatan Harapan component parties by the end of this week,” he said.
The Johor state assembly was dissolved on June 1.
In the last state election in March 2022, Barisan Nasional secured a two-thirds majority after winning 40 of the 56 seats, where Umno won 33 seats, MCA four and MIC three.
Pakatan won 12 seats – DAP (10) and PKR and Amanah won one seat each. Perikatan Nasional took three seats and Muda won one.
The 36-seat Negri Sembilan assembly was dissolved yesterday to pave the way for the state polls.
In the 2023 state election, Pakatan and Barisan Nasional formed the Negri Sembilan government after securing 31 seats in the assembly.
Pakatan won 17 seats – DAP (11), PKR (five) and one seat for Amanah. Barisan’s Umno won 14 seats while Perikatan Nasional won the remaining five seats.
