Case of disabled man being beaten is a regretful incident, says Welfare Department

PETALING JAYA: The case of a disabled individual being beaten by a group of men at a Pasar Tani is regretful and inhumane, outside the norm of common decency, says the Welfare Department.

It said the victim was an OKU card holder due to mental issues since March 2023.

"The Department is thankful to the police for their quick action and hope the investigations will be wrapped up soon and those who are guilty will be brought to justice," said the Welfare Department public relations unit in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 21).

"The department through its Kemaman branch office has given crisis intervention and psychological aid to the family of the victim.

"This was through counselling sessions to stabilise the emotional trauma of the family affected by the incident.

The department extended its sympathies to the victim and commended the public who were in solidarity with the man.

In an incident last week, disabled trader, Ahmad Noh Al Faizan Jusoh was assaulted by a group of men after he accidentally crashed into one of the stalls while on a motorcycle.

He sustained injuries to his body and face and was admitted to the Kemaman Hospital for treatment.

Police have since arrested three men between the ages of 18 and 60 to assist in the investigation.
