Male hairstylist remanded seven days over sexual assault of college student in Melaka

MELAKA: A male hairstylist has been remanded for seven days for allegedly committing sexual assault against an 18-year-old college student and part-time actor at his hair salon in Ayer Keroh here.

The remand order for the 41-year-old suspect was issued by Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman at the Magistrate's Court here on Mon (Jan 20).

Acting Melaka police chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Md Nazri Zawawi said the suspect was remanded until Jan 26 to assist investigations under Section 377C of the Penal Code, which is related to carnal intercourse against the order of nature.

He said the alleged act occurred when the part-time actor visited the suspect's hair salon on Friday (Jan 17) after being offered free service by the latter.

“After the hair styling session, the suspect offered complimentary body massage and the victim agreed as he had known the former for a long time,” he said.

SAC Md Nazri said that while the suspect was massaging the victim's thigh, he suddenly began acting strangely and started to sexually assault the victim.

"The terrified victim then dashed out from the salon and took a day to get over the trauma before lodging a police report on Sat (Jan 18)," he said.

SAC Nazri said a team of police officers detained the suspect at 4.30 pm at his home in Ayer Keroh on Sunday(Jan 19).

He added the victim was the eldest among three siblings and is a student at a public college in Bangi, Selangor and works as a part-time actor and artist for Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur.
