Perak cops confirm taking Nga's statement over Christmas celebration in ministry's office

PETALING JAYA: The police have confirmed that a statement has been taken from Housing and Local Government Ministry Nga Kor Ming over the Christmas celebration held in his ministry’s office last December.

Perak Police acting chief Deputy Commissioner Zulkafli Sariaat said the statement from the Teluk Intan MP was taken on Jan 3 following a police report made in Ipoh, Perak.

He said that taking the statement began around 11 am and took about 30 minutes.

"The police met with Nga for less than 30 minutes just to ask about the purpose of the programme," he said as quoted by Sinar Harian.

On Jan 1, PAS Youth said that a total of 69 police reports had been made against Nga regarding the public Christmas celebration at the ministry's office in Putrajaya, which allegedly involved Muslim staff members.

Nga previously said that his ministry upholds the principle of celebrating the cultural diversity that forms the strength and uniqueness of the nation's society.

He said that since taking office as minister, his ministry has celebrated all festivals starting with Chinese New Year followed by Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali, and then the Christmas celebration.
