Sabah MACC emphasises importance of anti-corruption pledges in business, government

KOTA KINABALU: Anti-corruption pledges should be practised in the daily operations of business and government agencies, says Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy.

He said the Ikrar Bebas Rasuah (IBR) pledge should be adopted in their daily lives and that the Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission would always support and assist anyone who wishes to practice it.

Karunanithy said in 2025, the Sabah MACC would prioritise enforcement and integrity.

“With only with integrity can the state generate more income,” he said.

Karunanithy said this after witnessing the anti-corruption pledge by the Energy Commission of Sabah (Ecos) here on Wednesday (Jan 15).

He urged Ecos members, regardless of job scope and rank, to take ownership of their actions and to take their pledges seriously.

Earlier, the chief executive officer of Ecos, Datuk Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid said the IBR is the first step for any organisation before it embarks on anti-corruption plans.

Ecos will establish an integrity unit focused on promoting good governance, enhancing workforce integrity, addressing complaints and tracking and verifying reports of misconduct or abuse of power, among other responsibilities, said Nasser.
