Bukit Aman wrapping up probe on KJ’s remarks, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is completing the investigation paper involving former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin in connection with the royal addendum linked to Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s house arrest case, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

This was after the police recorded Khairy’s statement on Monday.

“We are in the midst of completing the investigation within seven days before referring it to the deputy public prosecutor,” said the Inspector-General of Police. He said this at a press conference here yesterday after attending a ceremony honouring police personnel who went above and beyond to serve the public.

Asked on claims of a leak of minutes of a meeting involving the Federal Territories Pardons Board, which decided to commute Najib’s prison sentence, the IGP said no police reports have been lodged on the matter.

Razarudin said earlier that two police reports were lodged against the former health minister last Friday and the police started an investigation into the case.

“The complainant claimed to have read a story from a news portal, which said Khairy alleged that Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said was complicit in hiding the royal addendum.“The complainant said the news was not true and tarnished Azalina’s reputation,” he said.

The IGP said the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department’s Special Investigation Unit recorded Khairy’s statement at his office in Bukit Damansara on Monday.

“We are investigating under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.”

Last Friday, Azalina’s political secretary Datuk Suraya Yaacob lodged a police report against Khairy at the Sentul police station, while Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa’s political secretary Nor Azrina Surip filed a report in Putrajaya.

The controversy began after Khairy, in his “Keluar Sekejap” podcast, claimed there was a “crisis of confidence” in his former party Umno following revelations surrounding the royal addendum. He alleged that Azalina was involved in concealing the additional documents that could have allowed Najib to serve his sentence under house arrest.

Azalina had then urged all parties, particularly Umno members, to avoid speculation on the matter, emphasising that it could lead to sub judice.

She noted that the Court of Appeal had acknowledged the royal addendum’s existence, adding that the issue should be referred back to the High Court.
