Man nabbed for attempting to smuggle out cooking oil, petrol in Sandakan

KOTA KINABALU: A 36-year-old local man was caught during a raid in Sandakan on suspicion of smuggling out 146 boxes containing cooking oil and 300 litres of petrol to a neighbouring country.

Sabah (Region 4) Marine Police Commander Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said a three-tonne lorry and a four-wheel-drive vehicle were also seized under Ops Taring Landai Khas Kontraban at 9pm on Sunday (Jan 12).

Based on information, a team from Sandakan Marine Police Intelligence Unit checked the vehicles parked along Kampung Pukat, Jalan Bokara there, he said in the statement here.

The boxes contained 2,482 packets of one kg cooking oil, while the petrol were kept inside 10 gallon bottles.

The total seizure including the two vehicles were estimated to be RM146,717, Mohd Nazri added.

“The arrest was made under Control of Supplies Act 1961.

"The suspect and the seized goods were brought to Sandakan marine police operation base for further actions,” he said, adding that the case will be handed over to the Sandakan branch Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) office.
